The Cubs will be in Arlington, Texas to take on the Rangers. Some of the spots on the Opening Day roster are locks. It seemed when camp opened that almost all 25 would be, but now there are some questions. Those questions particularly pertain to the bullpen, and mostly due to injuries.Let’s take another look at who will be the 25 players in the Cubs dugout on March 28. These are my personal best guesses.Pitchers (13)Starters: Jon Lester, Yu Darvish, Cole Hamels, Kyle Hendricks, Jose QuintanaRelievers: Pedro Strop, Carl Edwards Jr., Mike Montgomery, Steve Cishek, Tyler Chatwood, Brian Duensing Luis Aparicio Jersey , Brandon Kintzler, Dillon MaplesSome of the relief decisions have been made easier by injuries. Tony Barnette, Brad Brach and Xavier Cedeno will all begin the year on the injured list, for various reasons. Brach and Cedeno would certainly have been on the active roster if not for illness (Brach) and injury (Cedeno, who hasn’t pitched at all this spring). Barnette would have had a strong case, but he too is injured. That speaks to the Cubs’ depth. Duensing and Kintzler haven’t had great springs, but they are both under contract and so, at least to begin the year, they’ll be in the pen. Maybe it will work.Catchers (2)Willson Contreras, Victor CaratiniThe Cubs looked around for a veteran backup to Contreras but were unable to sign or trade for one. It might be that they’ll look around again before the new single trade deadline of July 31. Alex Avila, who did a good job for the Cubs for two months in 2017, might be available again (caveat: he did not have a good year in 2018).Infielders (6)Anthony Rizzo, Ben Zobrist , Javier Baez, Kris Bryant, Daniel Descalso, David BoteDescalso appears headed back to being healthy enough to play Opening Day:Here are some thoughts on his new team and the season from Descalso on Saturday:Descalso mentioned that “most” of the guys in the current clubhouse were on the 2016 Cubs World Series championship team. There are just 13 players remaining from that team who will be on the 2019 Cubs active roster — Edwards, Hendricks, Lester, Montgomery, Strop, Contreras, Rizzo, Baez, Zobrist, Bryant Bill Melton Jersey , Almora, Schwarber and Heyward.Bote is likely staying until Addison Russell returns from his suspension. Russell will first be eligible (barring rainouts) for the May 3 game against the Cardinals at Wrigley Field.Outfielders (4)Kyle Schwarber, Albert Almora Jr., Ian Happ, Jason HeywardNo surprises here. Between the four players here, there will be enough playing time to give sufficient rest. And barring any injury or deal made by the Cubs over the next 10 days, I think those are the 25 men you’ll see open the 2019 regular season for the team. But not a ton else stands out."WhiteFanposts Fanshots Red Sox StoriesScheduleRosterStatsYahoo Red Sox NewsYahoo Red Sox Team PageYahoo Red Sox ReportYahoo Red Sox Depth ChartYahoo Red Sox TransactionsYahoo Red Sox PhotosOdds About Masthead Community Guidelines StubHub 鉁昍ed Sox MinorsRed Sox Minor Lines: Bryan Mata’s 2019 starts wellNew,2commentsBut not a ton else stands out.EDTShareTweetShareShareRed Sox Minor Lines: Bryan Mata’s 2019 starts wellPawtucket G1 L 3-6Pawtucket G2 L 3-4It was a rough doubleheader for Pawtucket on Saturday after they failed to get their game on Friday in. Michael Chavis was a combined 0-7 in the two games with four strikeouts overall and he made an error at the hot corner to boot. Gorkys Hernndez did come through with a home run in the second game. On the pitching side, Travis Lakins is one of the most intriguing young arms in the upper minors and Jenrry Mejia emerged as a legitimately exciting arm in spring. Both struggled in relief on Saturday.Portland L 1-8Yeesh. Rough day at the plate for the two legitimate prospects up in Portland, though that’ll happen and they did at least draw three walks between them. The pitching was the highlight, or lowlight if you prefer. Houck was hit all over the field on Saturday in his Double-A debut, failing to pick up where he left off to finish out 2018. One start is obviously no reason to get overly upset, but his confidence was likely shaken a bit. Schellenger , meanwhile, was a potential sleeper to make a major-league impact this year but his first two appearances out of Portland’s bullpen have been brutal.Salem G1 W 2-1Salem G2 L 1-2It was a day highlighted by pitching for this doubleheader down in Wilmington for both sides in a pair of 2-1 games. Bryan Mata got off to a good start as he repeats High-A, and most encouraging by far about his game was that he didn’t issue any walks. The righty issued over seven free passes per nine innings in 2018, so this is a huge step even in a single-game sample. He’s going to be one of the top players to watch in the entire system this year and could see a bounce back in his ranking status as soon as midyear.Greenville L 5-6It’s been a tough start to the year for both of the guys listed here, both of whom are at different points of their career. Combined they are 1-23 (Casas has the one hit) with three walks. Brannen was someone I was starting to come around on in terms of potential for a bounce-back year, but I will likely lost patience rather quickly given how poorly he’s done ever since joining the organization. Casas, meanwhile, will obviously have a ton of leash as last year’s first round pick. Contact has been his big issue thus far with six strikeouts in half of his plate appearances. Of course, it’s only a 12-PA sample size.Player of the Day: This was a pretty rough day on the farm for the Red Sox, with a few players having solid first or second ends of doubleheaders but not both. So, I’ll give this one to Bryan Mata getting off on the right foot as he tries to make quick work of High-A this time around and make his way up to Portland.
